Definition: All those organization that are hybrid and privately owned having a registered pharmacist with well-developed professional skills to serve the folk of local areas with both medication and pharmaceutical services including compounding, counseling and dispensing of prescribed and OTC drug with proper documentation.

Background: With the advent of patient-focused care, community pharmacists have become increasingly involved in providing health care services that go beyond the role of traditional medication dispensing.

Nuffield Foundation Pharmacy and RPSGB plays an important role in counseling, safe and effective use of medicines.

Royal pharmaceutical society of Great Britain (1996) It is the body responsible for the leadership and support of the pharmacy profession.

FUNTION: We lead and promote the advancement of science, practice and education in pharmacy to shape and influence the future delivery of pharmacy driven services.

We support and empower our members to improve health outcomes for society through professional guidance, networks and resources.
Public Health: It is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting human health through organized efforts and informed choices of health, organizations, public and private communities and individuals
Health
Definition: “State of good physical, mental and social conditions and free from illness or disease.”
Scope of public health: Its main aim is to provide conditions in which public live healthy life. Three main functions are:
Monitoring health of communities and identify health problems.

To solve identified local and national health problems.

To assure cost effective care and disease prevention services.

Health care:
Definition: “The organized provision of medical care to individuals or a community.”
For Promoting, Maintaining, Monitoring or Restoring Health.

Medical Health: The provision of a person’s health and well-being by physicians, nurses or by other health care professionals.

Levels of health care: Health care is another thing that is organized by three levels.

Primary Health care: It is an initial approach to a medical practitioner for making a better community through advice. It is provided in local area.

Secondary Health care: Health care is provided by medical specialist who have direct contact with patient for other minor problems such as cardiologists.

Tertiary Health care: Health care is provided to patient as specialized consultative health care for advanced investigation and treatment like burn treatment and cancer etc.

Difference between public health and community health: The major difference between public health and community health is that public health only revolves around the health of an individual whereas community health deals with health of community and cover major aspects. The main objectives of public health are to control physical, environmental and communicable disease whereas the community health promotes physical, mental and social well-being of people.

Role of Community Pharmacist: Community pharmacist works as health care professional. He plays key role in health promotion and advises other health care professionals regarding any aspect of medications.

Areas where pharmacist involve in public health through community
Family planning, alcohol and smoking withdrawal and nutrition habits.

Checking dosage and ensuring that medicines are correctly and safely supplied and labeled.

Counseling and Prevention of drug abuse
Expanded Program on Immunization.

Protection from environment
Advise patients about general health topics, such as diet, exercise, and managing stress, and on other issues, such as what equipment or supplies would be best to treat a health problem.

Social and administrative pharmacy: Social administration pharmacy may be defined as the discipline dealing with the role of medicines from social, scientific and human perspectives.

It draws on theories of the social and behavioral sciences and includes health psychology.
